Each week we will feature animals available for adoption at local shelters.

This week’s pick is Creamsicle from New Leash on Life.

Brief Description:
-Domestic Short hair/Siamese
-Female
-7 years
-White/Cream
-Spayed
-Microchipped
-Up to date on vaccinations
-Adoption Fee $85

Animal ID 24660860

“Creamsicle is a 7 year old, 8 pound, blue eyed, cream point Siamese mix. She was found as a stray and came to New Leash to find her forever inside home. Creamsicle is friendly and likes having her head and ears scratched. She loves sleeping on her back with her belly exposed but she doesn’t like her belly rubbed! Creamsicle would be best as the only cat as she does NOT care for other cats. She was picked on by the cats at the finder’s home and therefore she hid all the time. She has an old corneal ulcer in her right eye, but it doesn’t appear to bother her except she will squint periodically. With all of this said, Creamsicle is a wonderful cat that deserves a loving forever home. Come to the PetSmart in Mt. Juliet’s Providence Marketplace and meet Creamsicle and adopt her for $85.00. Creamsicle is litter box trained, spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. Adoption Center Policy: All cats must be INDOOR ONLY and shall NOT be declawed.”

“Lassie is the classic family dog. Her very name symbolizes loyalty, courage, beauty and grace, and most of all everyone’s love for pets. She recently lost her home through no fault of her own. That was very sad. And this is a dog who was really made for a home (with no other pets). Lassie loves people! She is a wonderful, friendly, long-legged girl and from what we can tell she is an Anatolian Shepherd. She is super sweet and gentle to people but would do best without any other animals in the house. Lassie is 10.5 years old but she is a new kind of “doggie boomer”. She’s lived a long life but she still has plenty of things on her bucket list. There are sunrays to absorb, people to befriend and many more treats to enjoy. And Lassie intends to do it all!

Lassie weighs 80 pounds – she is a big loveable girl with copper colored eyes and brownish/red/golden hair. She would probably be best in a family with no other pets but she’s ready and willing to give you as much love as an entire pack! Lassie is spayed and current on all vaccinations and will be micro-chipped prior to adoption. **This lovely lass has a sponsor so you can adopt Lassie for just $65.00!** Lassie is ready to come home and she just wants to live her retirement dream! Could you give this sweetheart a second chance at happiness? If it’s not the right time for you to adopt, please consider becoming a ‘Guardian’ to help Lassie and other homeless pets each month. Just visit: http://www.newleashonline.org and click on Programs, then Guardian Guild for more information. (Pet ID # D12-174)

This week’s pick is Bandit from New Leash on Life.

Brief Description:
-6 years 11 months
-Male
-Beagle/Mix
-Black/White
-Neutered, microchipped
-Up to date on vaccinations
Animal ID 17088038

“Bandit is a little bashful, but oh so dear! This 6 1/2 year old, 44 pound, black and white Beagle mix came to New Leash on Life in August of 2012 because his owner wanted him to have a better life. If you look into Bandit’s warm brown eyes, you’ll see a mix of shyness and hope; hope that you will understand his shyness and give him the security and love he so deserves. This is a dog who just wants someone to take a chance on him. Unlike most adoptions, and against policy, New Leash will allow Bandit to be adopted as an outdoor dog IF there is a safe and securely fenced-in backyard with adequate shelter available. As you give him love and treats, Bandit will bond nicely with you but we offer a 7 day Doggie Sleepover trial, so inquire if interested in taking that avenue.

NEWS FLASH: Bandit has a girlfriend, “Victory” who has been at New Leash on Life since July of 2012. They share the same kennel as well as similar dreams for a new family! Both enjoy playing or just hanging out together. Having a girlfriend has really helped Bandit to blossom and not be so shy.

Victory

Bandit is available for adoption for $60 as part of his fee has been sponsored. Or, you can adopt these two lovebirds as a pair for $85. They are both spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and current on vaccinations. If it’s not the right time for you to adopt, please consider becoming a ‘Guardian’ to help Bandit and other homeless pets each month.

Each week we will feature animals available for adoption at local shelters.

This week’s pick is Cosmo from New Leash on Life

Brief Description:

-5 month old Puppy
-Male
-Terrier, Pit Bull Mix
-Brindle
Animal ID 19274890

“Cosmo is SUCH a beauty! This sweet, bouncy brindle Pit Bull Terrier mix puppy has eyes that could melt any heart, and he had us wrapped around his paw from the moment he walked through our door. If you spend even a little time with him, you’ll feel the same way! Cosmo is a stunning, almost 5 month old, active puppy that enjoys being with people. He came to New Leash on Life from Wilson County Animal Control so he could find his forever home. We think Cosmo will be a medium to large size dog when fully grown.

NEWS FLASH!! Cosmo found a buddy to play with every day! Maverick is his older and wiser friend, who plays with him all day outside in the sunshine. They have a real blast playing around with each other all day (and wear each other out – which is a good thing!!) Cosmo has been neutered, micro-chipped and is current on age appropriate vaccinations. Puppies are so much fun but they need to be taught all those good things that puppies need to learn in order to grow up to be fabulous adult dogs. A puppy is a project! But they also bring so much love and joy. There’s nothing Cosmo would love more than to grow right up into your family. If you’ve been looking for that perfect puppy to grow up and explore the world with, Cosmo is sure to warm your heart. Come meet this sweet “bully” boy and adopt him for $135.00. **A home visit is required for this breed.**”

For more information on Cosmo visit New Leash on Life’s website at http://newleashonline.org.

Spring has sprung and with it begins kitten season! Nothing is cuter than kittens but too many kittens only increases our pet overpopulation problem leading to more unnecessary euthanizations. Please help by educating about the benefits of spaying and neutering in your community. Be a responsible pet owner or help others take advantage of the affordable spay and neuter resources available in Middle Tennessee. Together, we can make a difference.

Kitten season starts in the spring, peaking in late spring or early summer, and ending in the fall. According to the Pet Community Center, “Each year in Nashville over 10,000 animals are euthanized because of pet overpopulation.” “Spaying and neutering makes a big difference: Just one unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in only six years. In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce an incredible 370,000 kittens!” (PETA)

Middle Tennessee has lots of spay and neuter services, financial assistance programs, and low cost clinics.
